CMS advises ING Bank Romania on EUR 100m financing extension including ESG components

International law firm CMS has advised ING Bank Romania on the extension and modification of a bilateral EUR 100m loan granted to a company within the NEPI Rockcastle Group, among others, with the addition of certain Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) components.

Ana Radnev, CMS Partner, Head of Finance at CMS Romania and Co-Head of Sustainable Finance at CMS: “CMS’s expertise in the field of ESG is an asset to our clients in Romania and in the wider region who are growing more and more interested in observing ESG standards and obtaining a risk rating, such as the one offered by Sustainalytics which explains the benefits concerning access to financing and placement of investments. Together with my colleagues Alina Tihan and Diana Rotaru, we have continued a series of successful transactions – with sustainable financing emerging as an increasingly attractive financing solution for both banks/financiers and investors/corporations.”

Alina Tihan, Senior Counsel at CMS Romania: “We are pleased to have assisted ING Bank Romania on this project and are glad that there is an ever growing interest, both from the banks and from corporations, for “green”/sustainable financing. Such financing assumes a permanent assessment of ESG standards that must be observed by the borrower, with the final cost of the loan depending on the fulfilment of these standards.”

CMS has developed a practice in the field of ESG management and CMS’s Bucharest office has played an important part in the coordination of sustainable financing operations at group level.

The green financing granted by ING Bank Romania to NEPI Rockcastle Group has been coordinated by Ana Radnev (Partner, Finance) together with Alina Tihan (Senior Counsel, Finance). The CMS team also included Diana Rotaru (Associate, Finance), who has also been working together with Ana Radnev on this project on all aspects of sustainability, and Loredana Barbu (Lawyer, Finance).
