Entry into office of a new Member of the Court of Justice
By decision of 2 September 2020, the representatives of the Member States appointed, as Advocate General at the Court of Justice, for the period from 7 September 2020 to 6 October 2021, Mr Athanasios Rantos, who replaces Miss Eleanor Sharpston.
Mr Athanasios Rantos took his formal oath this morning during a public hearing for the delivery of judgments and opinions of the Court of Justice.

Born 1953; law degree from the University of Athens (1976); master’s degree with a specialisation in European law, Université Libre de Bruxelles (1990); Fellow of the International Institute of Human Rights in Geneva and Strasbourg (1992); lawyer at the Athens Bar (1978-1979); Junior Officer, Junior Member, Member, Vice-President and, since February 2020 President of the Greek Council of State (1979-2020); President of a number of Legislative Drafting Committees; Teacher at the Greek National School of Public administration, Teacher of European law and Administrative law at the Greek National School of Judicial Officers (1995-2016); President of the Disciplinary Council for Teachers in Further Education Institutions (multiple mandates between 2011 and 2020); President of the Special Court for Actions against Judges (multiple mandates between 2011 and 2020); Member, and then President of the Supreme Council for Administrative Justice (multiple mandates between 1996 and 2020); Member of the Superior Special Court of Greece (multiple mandates between 2000 and 2020); author of a large number of publications; Advocate General at the Court of Justice since 10 September 2020.
