Gabriel Albu, former Founding Partner and Managing Partner at BUDUȘAN, ALBU & ASSOCIATES, and the coordinating lawyer in the Rompetrol II case, launches his own law firm: ALBU-LEGAL

Attorney-at-law Gabriel Albu, together with a team of lawyers specialized in white collar crime, with a diversified background, multidisciplinary and complementary abilities in business crime law, launches a new law firm called ALBU-LEGAL.

The new boutique law firm is specialized in white collar crime, criminal and administrative prevention, internal and anti-fraud investigations, human rights protection procedures, defense of the crime victims’ rights, as well as in any related litigation and non-litigation issues.

The team led by attorney Gabriel Albu has extensive experience, dating from the beginning of this professional practice in the country – white collar crime -, practically contributing to the establishment of the “white collar crime” practice area on the Romanian legal market. ALBU-LEGAL’s lawyers have been involved in numerous important cases of the last 20 years, offering assistance especially to corporations – both multinational companies and national organizations – as well as to important businessmen, dignitaries or high-ranking officials.

In the new format, Gabriel Albu will assume the role of Managing Partner. With a vast professional experience and a career started in top multinational law firms, the lawyer has concentrated on the white collar crime practice, since 2005, being one of the pioneers of this practice area in Romania.

Gabriel Albu, Founding and Managing Partner ALBU-LEGAL:“After 12 years spent in Budușan, Albu & Asociaţii, currently Budușan & Asociaţii, I am moving forward in a new formula, meant to represent as well as possible my own vision, connected to the current realities, the increasingly sophisticated market, the continuous digitalization and the complex challenges brought by it and to a more mature business environment, locally and globally. I would like to express my thanks to Budușan & Associates, in particular to Ovidiu Budușan, with whom I contributed to the establishment and the development of white collar crime niche in Romania, placing the firm in the first tier, 3 years in a row, in the prestigious top The Legal 500, White Collar Crime category.

We know very well that these kind of cases have big, crucial implications: freedom, professional life, family life, business, image, social position and sometimes even health. On a “Richter scale” of issues that may affect a business or a person, the involvement in a criminal or related process reaches the “seismic maximum”. ALBU-LEGAL is our promise of dedicated, specialized legal assistance and of the highest standard possible, to all those who do us the honor of entrusting us with some of the most important aspects of their life, business, activity and career.”

Over the years, Gabriel Albu has been involved in a large number of high-level criminal cases in Romania. The lawyer managed complex cases, at the highest level of representation, involving mainly accusations of tax evasion and fraud against the financial interests of the European Union, accusations of corruption, financial fraud, work related crimes, capital market and public procurement fraud. He has a solid and diverse experience in the corporate field, assisting and representing a large number of companies – multinational and local – and also individuals within them, in complex criminal proceedings, under national jurisdiction and also with international elements.

The most recent success achieved by Gabriel Albu was the case publicly known as “Rompetrol II”, where the team coordinated by the lawyer managed to obtain the dismissal of the criminal charges, confirming that the multiple discussions and controversies raised over time do not fall under criminal law, respectively they do not find their place in front of the criminal judicial authorities of the Romanian state.

ALBU-LEGAL’s competencies focus in particular on the assistance provided to clients such as international investment funds, industrial equipment suppliers, oil companies, national, regional and global, international infrastructure and construction companies, global pharmaceutical companies, public service companies, international consulting companies, multinational and local companies from food industry, regional communications companies, regional real estate investment companies, European and international financial and banking groups, local and regional IT companies, but also to individuals in business executive positions.

ALBU-LEGAL’s portfolio includes companies operating in sectors such as: oil and gas, real estate, telecom and cable, civil construction, food industry, finance, forestry, airport activities, IT, print and signaling.
